Round 2 of Hummingbirds building their nests @ Stanford Cactus Garden Feb 10, 2018
Today, Feb 10, 2018, I went to the Stanford Cactus Garden around 9am, and the Hummingbirds were still at it, working to gather materials for their nests. I saw one gathering moss from the ground, another getting it from the large cacti, and another just getting nectar from the aloe plants. Also a few other birds along in the garden too. The photo below and a few others came from the closest I've been able to get to these hummingbirds, perhaps it felt comfortable enough to sit on the thorns and gather it's materials- only about arms length away from me. These hummingbirds are maybe only a few inches big.
SF Golden Gate Park & Botanical Garden 01/26/18
I'm a big fan of the icelandic poppies this time of year that are always planted in front of the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park. I love the play of light as it shines through their thin petals. There's also some nice magnolias, a trumpet looking bloom and a passion flower on a banana leaf that I felt looked like a tropical painting!
SF Golden Gate Park- Pond January 26, 2018 - Birds
Walked around Golden Gate Park on a cool, grey afternoon. Stumbled upon a bird drying it's wings- anyone know what type it is? Another couple birds with great hairdos (feather do?) caught a fish and was trying to eat it... the fish was pretty big for this bird!
Hawks! SF Botanical Garden January 2018
I just love hawks (or any bird of prey). They are beautiful and typically observing their surroundings. This particular hawk watched me as I walked around to try and get a better photo. He was a good 50-100 feet up in the tree, so it was a bit of a tough shot. I don't think he liked me watching him and taking photos... towards the end he flew right at me and was screeching- flying far off into the distance.
